Air Purifier: Not an Optional Appliance but a Necessary One

The air quality is depleting with newsoften coming that many major cities are getting engulfed in a thick blanket of smog. Last Diwali, according to global air pollution data, India’s air quality was one of the worst in the world. The national capital was choked by smog due to the bursting of Diwali crackers, low temperature, high humidity and low wind speed. This air pollution doesn’t stop outdoors, but has also started making its way indoors.

The depleting air quality is also resulting in increased allergies in people. An estimate suggests that nearly one in two people in the country exhibit some kind of allergic response. This kind of allergic reaction is due to some environmental factor. Around 50% of these allergens are air borne. It’s not possible for humans to stop breathing.

Then you are left with only two options – one is to suffer and wait for a better and healthier future and the second is to do something to make the air quality better – atleast indoors where you spend the maximum part of the day. Search on Google by typing air purifier India and you will get numerous air purifier options that claim to make the air cleaner and healthier to breathe.

First Line of Defence to Fight against Airborne Allergens

The air purifier market in India is still in the nascent stage, but seeing the way things are moving this optional device is soon going to be an essential one in every household. It works as the first line of defence to safeguard you against airborne allergens. As the air purifiers today come fitted with HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filter, it reduces the allergens floating in the air. HEPA filter is known to eliminate nearly 99.97% of the common allergens present in air including dust mites, mold spores, pollen, ragweed and pet dander.

The air purifiers fitted with HEPA are the most efficient and popular ones as on date. Only after meeting the strict government requirements is any manufacturer permitted to sell its air purifiers under the HEPA label. They filter all the contaminants that are 0.3 microns or larger.

Ozone Technology for Air Purification

When it comes to chemicals, gases and odours, HEPA filters alone are not enough. In such cases, ozone technology is better. It works in a completely different manner. Instead of filtering the air, it produces negative ions that clear the air of dust and pollutants. Ozone, which is also known as activated oxygen, removes the odours present in the air. The activated oxygen breaks down and oxidizes the various chemical and biological pollutants present in the air.

Oxygen that is required by all living organisms to stay alive comprises of two oxygen atoms, but ozone has three oxygen atoms. When the extra molecule of ozone attaches with another single atom present, clean and pure oxygen is created. So, the ozone purifiers use this principle. After oxidising the pollutants, ozone reverts to oxygen, thereby converting the polluted air to cleaner and healthier one.

If you want your home or office where you spend the maximum part of your day to have cleaner air to breathe, you should definitely consider investing in an air purifier. This equipment is no more an optional appliance but turning to be a mandatory one.
